Western Railway Suspends Parcel Service at Surat, Udhna Stations for 11 Days Amid Festive Rush

Surat: Western Railway has suspended parcel booking and handling at Surat and Udhna railway stations from November 5 to 15, 2026, to ensure passenger safety and prevent overcrowding during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festive rush.

The restriction, announced through a circular issued by Western Railway headquarters in Mumbai, will apply to both inward and outward movement of departmental railway parcels and leased parcel traffic.

The decision comes amid an expected surge in passenger traffic, with several festival special trains being operated from Surat and Udhna to destinations across North and East India. Railway officials said the movement of parcel trolleys and loading and unloading activities on platforms during the rush could obstruct passenger movement and increase the risk of accidents, including stampedes.

The 11-day restriction will cover all trains originating from or terminating at Surat and Udhna, as well as trains passing through and making scheduled stops at these stations. However, passengers will continue to be allowed to carry their personal luggage in train coaches.

Western Railway has also advised traders and the business community to make alternative arrangements for parcel transportation during the restriction period to avoid congestion and ensure smooth passenger movement at the stations. DeshGujarat
