Kajal Baraiya Murder: Faizal Sentenced to Life Imprisonment by Bhavnagar Court

Bhavnagar: A Bhavnagar District and Sessions Court has sentenced Faizal alias Khatki Lakhani, 25, to life imprisonment for the murder of Kajal Baraiya, delivering its verdict just 62 days after the crime. The case drew widespread attention after a video purportedly showing police personnel beating the accused during a crime reconstruction exercise went viral on social media.

District and Sessions Judge R. V. Bukhari pronounced the verdict after examining documentary evidence and witness testimonies presented during the trial. The court convicted Lakhani and sentenced him to imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life.

Kajal Baraiya was allegedly assaulted and murdered in public by Faizal, her live-in partner, following a quarrel on September 4. The incident triggered widespread outrage in Bhavnagar.

According to police, Faizal suspected Baraiya of having an affair, leading to an argument that turned violent. He allegedly assaulted her and repeatedly kicked her, causing severe kidney injuries. She subsequently died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Faizal had a history of multiple offences involving violence and was out on bail at the time, reportedly with Baraiya’s assistance.

Following the incident, Nilambag Police registered a murder case, arrested the accused and launched an investigation. The investigating team collected evidence, recorded witness statements and prepared the case for trial.

The police subsequently filed the charge sheet before the court on October 4, exactly a month after the murder. The prompt submission of the charge sheet helped expedite judicial proceedings.

The court subsequently completed the trial, examined the evidence and heard arguments from both sides before delivering its verdict within 62 days of the murder. DeshGujarat
