To resolve the issue of shortage of water at Dahej in central Gujarat due to reduced water release from Narmada dam by government, Reliance Industries Ltd(RIL) in Gujarat has started shipping water from its Jamnagar plant in Saurashtra region to Dahej plant in central Gujarat region using coastal route.
RIL has moved 11,000 metric tonne water tanker vessel from Jamnagar on way to Dahej using coastal route. The vessel is likely to reach Dahej late in the night on Friday or on early in the morning on Saturday. To overcome water shortage in its Dahej plant, RIL at present operates around half a dozen tankers from Vadodara to Dahej by road.
Industries in Dahej are facing water shortage for last some time as water released from Narmada dam is down to 600 cusec from earlier 1200 cusec. The government has reserved dam water for drinking purpose.
Industrial town Dahej has presence of around 70,000 workers. The industries here are facing water shortage problem. At least three plants are even non-functional due to this issue for last 3 days. Water supply is presently fetched through Bhanot, Angareshwar and Nad based pumps in addition to a water body created by Dahej Industry Association which has not sufficient water.
