Gujarat Chief Minister greets people on Makar Sankranti, flies kite from rooftop in Khadia locality
Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani here today greeted the people of Gujarat on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, also fondly called ‘Uttarayan’, as the Sun starts moving from southern hemisphere to northern (meaning ‘uttar disha’).
As it is also celebrated as the kite festival, Mr. Rupani took time off to fly kites from the rooftop in Khadia locality in the city. He wished Gujarat’s prosperity goes skyward like the kites soar high in the sky.
Those present there included Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah, MLA from Khadia Bhushan Bhatt and city corporators, among others.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani visits centres run by NGOs to treat birds injured in kite flying
Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today visited city-based Wildlife Care Centre and Namonam Centre at Dharnidhar to inspect treatment of birds injured by strings while flying kites.
He appealed to the people to ensure the birds are not injured by the kites, as part of the statewide ‘Karuna Abhiyan’ from January 10 to 20, 2017 for creating awareness and alerting people to be compassionate towards the birds.
The campaign is being carried out by the government employees of Forest, Veterinary and Education Departments and Voluntary Organizations, under the supervision of municipal commissioners and district collectors all over the state.
Referring to actions taken to check the spread of Bird Flu, the Chief Minister said he had issued instructions to all concerned to take urgent and effective steps.
Mr. Rupani was accompanied by Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah, dditional Chief Secretary of Forest and Environment Arvind Agrawal, Municipal Corporators and office-bearers of the NGOs.

Rajkot: Using the lingo of kite-flying on Uttarayana, the festival of kites, for explaining his political stance in this year of assembly election in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said that he was neither interested in cutting others kites nor in looting the ones cut by others but only in taking his party’s kite further high-up.
Talking to newsmen while flying kite in his home city with friends here, the chief minister was replying to the question as to whose kite he would like to cut this year.
He said that his only interest was to take the BJP’s kite further high up. ‘I don’t want to cut anyone’s kite. I have no interest in looting the kites cut by others either. All I want is to take our own kite further high up in the sky,’ the soft-spoken chief minister said.
On being asked as to which way he think the wind will take the kite of politics in the sate this year when elections are due to be held by the year end, Rupani said that the wind was already in favour of BJP all over the country.
‘Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the wind is already in our favour, here in Gujarat and elsewhere,’ he said.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had visited an animal rescue center in Ahmedabad on the occasion of Uttarayan as part of Karuna campaign of his government. He had also flown kite in Khadiya area of Ahmedabad in presence of his wife Anajalben and son Rushabh.
