BJP President Amit Shah visits Somnath temple, performs Puja, dhwajarohan with wife

Somnath (Gujarat): A day before the first visit of Somnath temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after assuming his office in Delhi, BJP president Amit Shah, who is also a trustee of the temple trust, today performed Mahapuja and Dhwajarohan here.

Amitbhai, who arrived here by road in the wee hours from Rajkot,performed the Puja with his better half.
Trustee Secretary of the temple P K Lahri, trustee J D Parmar were also present on the occasion.

Notablly PM Modi during his two day Gujarat visit starting today, would also participate in the board meeting of the temple trust after performing Mahapuja there tomorrow morning in which apart from Shah former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani will also remain present.

All the 7 members of the 8 member trust (one position vacant) including PM Modi, Amitbhai and Advaniji as trustees and former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel as its chairperson, will participate in the meeting,’ In-charge GM of temple Vijaybhia Chavda said today.

PM will arrive here on a chopper in the morning (his last visit of Somnath was in February 2014 as the then Chief Minister) and offer prayer. Later he will participate in the trustee board meeting during which some important decision might be taken.

Meanwhile security in and around the temple situated on the coast of Indian Ocean, has been beefed up in the wake of the PM’s visit. The temple, first among the 12 jyotirlingas of lord Shiva, is visited by lakhs of devotees every year.
