June 13, 2017
Gandhinagar: BJP has today claimed victory over 17 of total 27 taluka panchayat seats that went for by-poll last Sunday. According to Shri Harshad Patel from State BJP media cell BJP has won 17 of 27 seats with fresh gain of 10 seat. The party previously had won only 7 of these 27 seats.
Meanwhile Congress party’s Saurashtra incharge Rajeev Satav in his tweet said: Congress won 4 out f 5 seats in Taluka Panchayat by-election of Devbhumi Dwarka District of Gujarat.
Based on this victory, he went on to say that there’s a Congress wave across Gujarat.
However, if today’s overall results are any indicator, that BJP is still the boss in Gujarat. At the same time BJP’s ‘Congress Mukt Gujarat’ target seems very far away. Congress is still there as the second force.
Out of total 37 seats of taluka panchayats and nagarpalika that went for by-polls, BJP has won 23 seats while Congress has won 12 seats. One seat has gone to independent candidate. Election on one seat (Gangad) has been stayed by the Gujarat High Court. BJP had previously won 10 seats. The party has added 13 seats therefore in this by-poll.
State party president Jitu vaghani said the Congress party knowing well that by-polls are to be held across the state took hold of a victim family in Mahesana and started playing dirty politics over sensitive issue of someone’s death. However in today’s results, Congress has lost seats even in Patidar populated areas.
