Collectors, NDRF asked to stay stand-to as Met issues heavy to very heavy rain warning

Gandhinagar: Even as south west monsoon has made further advance in Gujarat, the Relief Commissioner has written to all the collectors to take appropriate preparatory measures to deal with any situation arising in case of heavy to very heavy rain in the state as predicted by Met department even as Moderate rain was witnessed at some places today.
Met department has issued heavy to very heavy rain warning for parts of South Gujarat for next 36 hours while the same for central and north Gujarat has been issued for June 28,29 and 30.
Mamlatdar-disaster in state flood control N S Yogi today said that the relief commissioner had written letters to collctors in the wake of heavy rain warning. ‘One unit (consisting of 35 personnel) of NDRF has been kept ready in Rajkot and one in Surat to deal with any situation,’ he said.
Meanwhile, today Porbandar saw around three inches of rain while parts of Junagadh, Amreli, Rajkot, Dwarka and Verawal received half to two inches or rains. Valsad which saw on an average around nine inches of rains two days ago saw isolated light drizzle. Rains were reported form some other places.
Yesterday a total of 137 talukas of 31 districts had witnessed rain with Ankleshwar in Bharuch seeing maximum of around four inches. Notably over a hundred people were rescued in Umargam taluka of Valsad yesterday from rain caused flooded areas in Godhipada and Daruthha Khadi.
The met bulletin today said that the SW monsoon has further advanced in to some more parts of Gujarat state. The northern limit of it was passing through Naliya to Idar stretch under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat, Saurashtra and adjoining North East Arabian Sea.
Perspiration is being felt at most of the palces owing to high humidity which has kept the temperatures well below 40 degree Celsius.
