Met issues region/district wise heavy rain warning list, spells of extremely heavy downpour expected tomorrow and day-after

Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad: Met department today said that owing to a low pressure area over Kutch the state would witness spells of heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places across the state today and in the next 3 days with some extremely heavy falls tomorrow and the day after.

Meanhwile many places in the state are witnessing rain today with Umergam taluka in Surat seeing over four inches of rain in which around 3 and a half inches were received in just two hours. Mahesana town and Deodar Taluka in Banskantha district have also seen over two inches of rain. Vapi in Valsad has also recorded similar amount of rain. Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha, Bayad in Aravalli, Mangrol in Junagadh Visnagar in Mahesana along with Radhanpur in Patan have also seen spells of moderate rainfall. More rain is expected by evening and during the night.

Ahmedabad city has also seen around 8 mm of rain till afternoon. 143 talukas of 32 districts had witnesed rain in last 24 hours ending at 8 am this morning with Mangrol in Surat district seeing over 7 inches of rain. Dolvan in Tapi, Rajkot city and Bagasara in Amreli received over 3.5 inches of rain. The average seasonal rain figure has become 44.01%.

Senior meteorologist and in-charge director of Ahmedabad IMD Center Manorama Mohanty today said that the very heavy rain warning has been ‘prepond’ of sorts owing to a new system of low pressure over Kutch.

‘While the system over bay of Bengal has reached up to Northern Madhya Pradesh till now, the new system over Kutch will make the monsoon vigorous again causing heavy to very heavy rain today as well as in the next 3 days,’ she said adding that owing to sea also becoming rough the fishermen have been warned against venturing in to the sea along and off Gujarat coast from today up to July 23.

She said that the collectors and other concerned authorities of the district where very rain fall is expected have also been alerted.

Today July 20 – Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari, Tapi, Surat, Bharuch, Dahod; Saurashtra-Kutch namely Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Porbandar, AMreli, Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Morbi and in Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar
Haveli.

July 21– Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely in the districts of Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bhsruch, Narmada, Tapi, Vadodara, Patan, Banaskantha, Dahod, Chhota Udaipur, Panchmahal; Saurashtra-Kutch namely Bhavnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Rajkot, Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Amreli, Kutch and in Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.

July 22 – Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely in the districts of Gujarat region namely Anand, Vadodara, Patan, Banaskantha, Dahod, Panchmahal, Kheda, Mahisagar, Aravali, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Sabarkantha; Saurashtra-Kutch namely Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Botad, Amreli, Rajkot, Kutch and in Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

July 23 – Heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Valsad, Navsari. Heavy to very heavy rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Morbi, Surendra nagar, Botad, Porbandar and in Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Port Warning: Due to active monsoon condition, Squally weather is very likely to prevail near the ports along Gujarat coast. Sea condition will be moderate to rough along and off Gujarat coast during 20th to 23th July 2017.

Fishermen warning: Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Sea along & off Gujarat coast during 20th to 23th July 2017.

Notably the state has seen some spells of extremely heavy rainfalls during this monsoon which caused floods and killed many.

The Relief and Rescue agencies including NDRF has been constantly on alert and has so far saved over 400 lives.
