AAP leader Kanu Kalsariya meets Rahul, says will contest from Mahua as independent
October 09, 2017
Nadiad: Senior AAP leader and 3 time former MLA of Gujarat Kanu Kalsariya today had a meeting with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here.
Kalsariya who was BJP MLA from 1997 to 2012 and joined AAP in 2014 after his defeat in 2012 assembly polls as an independent candidate (of Sadbhavana Manch), is again willing to contest election from Mahuwa seat in Bhavnagar disrict as an Independent and wants Congress support.
His meeting with Rahul today is understood to be a part of this strategy.
Kalsariya himself said that the meeting was a courtesy call.
‘See I am AAP party leader but I am going to contest as an Independent from Mahuva for personal and regional reasons. Both AAP and Congress want to see the defeat of BJP. I am sure AAP which is yet to be strong enough in Gujarat to come to power all alone at its own, is with my decision and hope that Congress would also support me to defeat BJP,’ he said.
He said that AAP will field its candidates on only a few selected seats to avoid any damage to Congress whose prospects of winning the elections were strong this time around.
