Patan bandh by Dalit organization evoke marginal response

Patan:

The Patan Bandh of various Dalit organization to protest against the self immolation bid in collector office premises here and demanding action against responsible officials today evoked marginal response in the town.

Many of the bandh supporters forcefully shut shops in the markets.

They took out a rally in the town in which Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani was also present.

The bandh supporters also tried to disrupt bus services by holding a gherao in the bus depot.

They also tried to block roads by burning tyres near Bagvada Darwaza in the city.

Tight security arrangement were made in the town in the wake of the bandh called to protest the incident of immolation bid by a Dalit man from Dudkha village of Sami taluka, Bhanu Vankar.

Mevani later said that he condemn the incident of tyre burning and appeal the people to not to resort to violent means for protest.

He demanded that an SIT should be constituted and one IPS from Dalit community recommended by the community should be included in it.

Notably terming the incident as unfortunate Chief Minister Vijay Rupai today said that the Chief Secretary has been given the responsibility to collect all the facts regarding the incident. He also said that the complete cost of treatment of Vankar would be borne by government.
