Amreli:

A youth was arrested in the wee hours today in connection with the killing of a Chinkara (Indian Gazelle, a kind of antelope) in Bhad village of Khambha in Amreli district close to Tulsi-Shyam range of Gir forests in Gujarat last week.

Deputy Conservator of Forests, Gir (East) Division T. Karuppasamy said one Sanjay A Delvadiya has been nabbed from Mitaliya village under Savarkundala taluka of Amreli district at 0200 am. He has accepted his crime. The country-made gun used for hunting the beast has also been recovered from him.

‘We had nabbed another person earlier on but it tunred out that he had not committed the crime. Later Sanjay was nabbed. Two other offenders of the case were being searched,’ the DCF said.

The incident had taken place on May 5.

Notably a large number of Chinkara and other species of deer also live in Gir forests which is primarily famous as the sole abode of Asiatic lions.
