90 % works of Jal Abhiyan either completed or under process: Chief Secretary

Gandhinagar: Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyaan (SSJA) has taken a form of ‘Jan Abhiyaan’ (Citizens’ campaign). The self generated cooperation and partnership from the voluntary organizations and common mass of people into the SSJA has geared it up into the ‘Mission Mode’, said Dr. J. N. Singh, Chief Secretary of the state, in a statement.
Giving further details of the SSJA, Dr. Singh stated that under the SSJA a large scale cleaning and deepening works in lakes, rivers, canals, and other water reservoirs have been undertaken in all the eight municipal corporations, 153 nagarpalikas and 9747 villages of tehsils of the state.
At present as many as 9790 works are ongoing in 33 districts. While 2540 works have been completed, it means that against the targets of 16,616 works, 90 % works have been either completed or under process.
In total 2204 voluntary, social and religious institutions have joined in this mammoth works undertaken by the state government. In this jal abhiyan (water campaign) total 16,368 machines, including 3,723, JCB/Hitachi machines, and more than 12,645 tractors, dumpers, have been pressed into the service in just 17-days span since commencement of the SSJA, in nine districts – Chhota udepur, Panchmahal, Gandhinagar, Mahisagar, Botad, Gir-Somnath, Narmada, Bharuch and Rajkot – more works have been completed than planned targets, he added.
Over 85% works have been completed in 14 districts, which included Devbhoomi Dwarka, Vadodara, Junagadh, Kheda, Surendranagar, Dangs, Tapi, Patan, Dahod, Porbandar, Aravalli, Surat, Morbi and Anand, of the state.
Dr. Singh further stated that Mr. Rupani, deputy chief minister Mr. Nitinbhai Patel, and members of minister of council, officials of boards and nigams, and from senior secretaries to Karmayogis of talati levels are contributing their share of ‘Seva Daan’ (labour donation) in this seva yagna of enriching the Gujarat’s water future. He also urged everyone to join this noble cause to boost it further.
