Gujarat cadre IAS officer GC Murmu appointed first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi: The President of India has appointed Gujarat cadre IAS Girish Chandra Murmu as the first Lieutenant Governor of union territory Jammu & Kashmir.
Known as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s man, GC Murmu is presently serving as Additional Secretary, Financial Services in Finance department of Government of India.
Murmu is 1985 batch Gujarat cadre officer. He served as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister in Anandiben Patel government and also under then Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s government in Gujarat. Murmu also served as then CM Modi’s additional principal secretary. One of the departments Murmu handled in Narendra Modi led Gujarat government was Home department.
Murmu was shifted from Gujarat to the Centre in April 2015 and appointed Joint Secretary, Expenditure.
Satya Pal Malik, the present Governor of J&K is transferred as Governor of Goa. Radha Krishna Mathur has been appointed as first Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Dineshwar Sharma, IPS (retired.) has been appointed as Administrator of Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
