Rath Yatra 2020 in Ahmedabad to be a simple affair : Mandir Trustee

Ahmedabad: Mahendra Jha, trustee of Jagannathji Temple in Ahmedabad, today told media persons that there would be no elaborate Rath Yatra 2020 this June 23 on the occasion of Ashadhi Bij.

Jha said only three chariots and bare minimum persons would be part of the procession.

He said, as per the guidance given by Dilipdasji Maharaj (chief priest of Jagannath Mandir, Jamalpur) a decision has been taken to mark the occasion in simple manner without Bhajan groups and trucks. Only one or two elephants could be part of the procession along with three chariots, each with around 30 Khalas community people who pull the Rath through entire route.

Jha issued appeal to the people to watch Rath Yatra this year on TV screen only.

He said, annual Jal Yatra procession which takes place ahead of Rath Yatra will this year involve only pujaris and trustees of Jagannath temple on June 5.

He said further clarification on the mode of Rath Yatra this year will arrive after directions from the government are received.

Jha said, Netrotsav ceremony will take place on 21st of June. Due to solar eclipse this year, Netrotsav will take place post 4 pm. Ranchho Mandir will invite only one or two persons this year. He said the trust will make planning to avoid crowding in the temple.
