Two killed as side wall of approach of overbridge collapses in Rajkot

Rajkot: Two persons who were passing through the road died on the spot after a sidewall of approach road of an over bridge near Aaji chowkdi collapsed and rubble fell on them. The road has been declared risky and it is closed for the traffic. The incident took place after rain water entered inside the structure through cavity created by rats and soaked the soil filling inside the structure. The bridge and approach structure comes under purview of National Highway Authority.
Chief Minister Rupani has ordered magisterial probe into this incident. NHAI has also decided to call SVNIT Surat team for engineering related investigation in this incident. The bridge was constructed by NHAI in year 2008. 20 meter portion of retaining wall of approach collapsed at around 11 am killing two persons who were passing there.
