PM Modi crosses 60 million ( 6 crore) followers on Twitter

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known for reaching out to masses through social media, continues to be the most followed Indian on Twitter with his followers crossing 60 million (6 crore) mark on the microblogging site. This is another testimony to his immense popularity on social media!
The Prime Minister stands tall among the world leaders on Twitter, with his handle @narendramodi behind that of US President Donald Trump, who has 83.7 million followers.
Former US President Barack Obama remains on the first spot with over 120 million accounts following him.
No Indian politician is even close to Prime Minister Modi. Even the number of followers on the official Twitter handle of Prime Minister’s Office has crossed 37.4 million.
Modi, who is quite famous for his oratory skills, is also very active on Twitter and regularly puts out texts on everything- from his speeches at various platforms to the places he went and the people he met.
He started using the platform in 2009 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and his popularity grew overwhelmingly as he assumed the office of Prime Minister in 2014.
The Prime Minister is also active on his Facebook handle with nearly 45 million followers and on Instagram with around 45.3 million followers.
PM Modi’s tweet celebrating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s 2019 Lok Sabha election victory in May, was declared the most re-tweeted and ‘liked’ tweet of the year in India. It was named the ‘Golden Tweet’ by Twitter.The ‘Golden Tweet’ — as the microblogging site calls it — was posted by PM Modi on May 23, 2019. “Sabka Saath + Sabka Vikas + Sabka Vishwas = Vijayi Bharat,” PM Modi wrote in Hindi, adding, “Together we grow. Together we prosper. Together we will build a strong and inclusive India. India wins yet again!” in English. The tweet has so far been retweeted by 1.18 lakh users and gained 4.2 lakh ‘likes’. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Tweet celebrating BJP’s re-election victory in #loksabhaelections2019 was the most Retweeted and Liked Tweet of the year, making it the Golden Tweet in India,” Twitter had said in its blog.
As per estimates, Twitter has 330 million monthly active users making it a tough platform to gain traction on. Politicians started using the micro-blogging site to bridge the gap between them and their voters. Twitter most notably emerged as a digital political battleground during the 2016 US presidential elections.
