Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has asked Tatas to start the work on setting up Indian Institute (IIS) of Skills. A High powered team from Tata Group consisting of senior officer H N Srinivas, legal advisor Uday Khare and others recently held meeting with the State government in which ACS Vipul Mittra, Labour & Employment department asked Tatas to start the work asap. Tatas have given a plan of action to the department and will commence work in short time.

IIS is being set up by Labour and Employment department along with Tata Group at Nasmed village of Gandhinagar. The State Govt has allotted around 20 acre land for where Tatas to start IIS.

Foundation stone for proposed IIS at Nasmed was performed by Union Home minister Amit Shah who is also Lok Sabha member from Gandhiagar constituency in Gujarat. Proposed IIS at Nasmed is located in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

IIS, as per the State government note, is being developed on a Not-for-profit Public Private Partnership mode by the Tata Group along with the state’s Labour and Employment department. While the state government has provided land for the Institute, Tata Education Development Trust is contributing the capital investment. In addition to Ahmedabad, the union government has also approved Indian Institutes of Skills in Mumbai and Kanpur.
 
Vipul Mittra, ACS said that the Indian Institutes of Skills are aimed at providing training and developing highly skilled technical manpower to meet the demands of highly specialized areas such as focus on Technology and Manufacturing trades like Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Additive Manufacturing, Augmented Reality, System Integration, Cloud based Application, Simulation Solutions, Industrial Robots, Big Data Analysis, Factory Automation, Digital Manufacturing, Smart Mechatronics, Predictive Maintenance, Digital Quality & Design. Also, trades related to defence, aerospace, oil & gas. The Indian Institutes of Skills are expected to emerge as premier training institutions on the lines of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and make vocational training aspirational for the youth.
 
He added, “A minimum of 5,000 students will pass out every year from the Institute five years after commencement of its operations, with a target to provide placement to 70 per cent of the pass-outs.” DeshGujarat
