ACB Gujarat nabs Sarpanch, Engineer in Rs. 1.40 lakh bribe case

Bharuch: Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) Gujarat on Friday detained Sarpanch of Khanpurdeh village and Additional Assistant Engineer (Civil), Class-3 of Jambusar Taluka in Bharuch district for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1,40,000 for signing a bill of road construction works. The incident took place at Sea-food godown office, Machchhi Market, Dholikui, Bharuch.
As mentioned by ACB in a note, the complainant had handed over a bill of Rs. 1, 56, 000 to Khanpurdeh Gram Panchayat for Mati Mattel and CC Road construction work in the village. Talati Cum Mantri had created and signed a check of that bill and asked the complainant to get it signed by Sarpanch. Following that, one of the accused- Abdulrashid Suleman Patel, Sarpanch of Khanpurdeh village had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,40,000 for signing the bills of current and previous works from the complainant. Both the accused were nabbed by ACB after one of the accused- Sarpanch demanded and accepted bribe of Rs. 1,40,000 on behalf of Accused-2 Shashikant Mohanbhai Chaudhary, Additional Assistant Engineer (Civil) Class-3, Jambusar during the trap, as per the note of ACB.
