Not a single Great Indian Bustard left in Kutch sanctuary: Govt

New Delhi: There is no Great Indian Bustard (GIB) bird left in the Kutch Bustard Sanctuary, said the Central Government in a reply in Rajya Sabha on July 19.

Minister of State, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha said: ‘As per the information provided by the State Government, there is no Great Indian Bustard (GIB) in the Kutch Bustard Sanctuary, as on 1st
January, 2021.’

Kutch Bustard Sanctuary or Kachchh Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary, also known as Lala–Parjan Sanctuary, is located near Jakhau village in Taluka Abdasa, Gujarat, India.

The population of Great Indian Bustards decreased in the state by 23 in last census held in year 2016, the State government had earlier this year said in a reply in the State assembly. DeshGujarat
