Polling held in Gujarat for Gram Panchayat elections; Nearly 1.5 lakh candidates, 1.81 crore voters

Gandhinagar: Polling was held in Gujarat today for gram panchayat elections. The voters exercised franchise for election of Sarpanchs and the members of village panchayat governing bodies.

There was around 74.70 per cent turnout as per the State Election Commission. Polling was postponed at five places in the State for various reasons. Re-polling will take place on Monday at these places.

There are a total 1,19,998 candidates in fray for 53,507 positions of members of village panchayat bodies in this election.

There are a total 1,82,15,013 electors which includes 93,69,202 male electors and 88,45,811 female electors.

There are 23,907 polling centers, out of which 6,656 polling centers are declared sensitive and 3,074 polling centers are declared as very sensitive.

A total 51,747 police jawans are deployed for the bandobast. For the polling, 2,546 polling officers, 2,827 assistant polling officers, and 1,37,466 polling staff are deployed.

A total 27,200 candidates are in fray for the 8560 positions of sarpanch in the upcoming gram panchayat election covering 8684 gram-panchayats.
