2700 meter runway of new Rajkot airport at Hirasar ready; Works for terminal in progress

Rajkot: The 2700-meter runway is ready and the work of the terminal is in progress at Hirasar International Airport at Rajkot.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Sanjeev Kumar visited Hirasar Greenfield Airport. He conducted a site visit of various sites such as the terminal building, ATC tower, fire station and runway with the officials of the related department. He instructed to complete the work as soon as possible. The progress report of the airport was presented to him in the form of a presentation. It was indicated that the airport is likely to be ready till August 2022. AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar and planning manager Anil Kumar Pathak had discussion with all the agencies.

The first phase of the work of the airport at the cost of Rs 670 crore is about to complete. Hirasar airport will be built at a total cost of Rs 1400 crore across 960 acres. AAI project manager Loknath informed that the work of the 2700-meter runway is completed at present and the work of boundary wall is about to complete. He added that the work of the box culvert is proceeding speedily. It was decided in the meeting that the land acquisition should be completed immediately by paying higher redemption to the locals. A meeting of the District Level Consultation Committee will be organised to decide the prices of the land.

AAI project manager Loknath Padhe informed that Rs 3.10 crore were paid to the PGVCL to get an 11-kv electricity line in the airport and it is assured that the connection will be given within 3 months. The estimated cost for the water supply including 14-km DI pipeline from Machhu dam pump house, sump and so on will be Rs 6.88 crore. The water requirement of the airport is likely to be 3 lakh liter daily at present and 10 lakh liter daily later. DeshGujarat
