July 14, 2022
Surat: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) filed a plea on Wednesday before the court to transfer Arif Mindi and Sajju Kothari to a jail outside Surat district. Both the dreaded gangsters have been lodged in Surat District Central Jail under GUJCTOC Act.
The public prosecutor and jail authorities have cited overcrowding at the Surat Central Jail as a reason for transferring the accused to a jail outside Surat.
It is important to note that Arif Mindi, Sajju Kothari, Asif Tameta, Vipul Gajipura, the accused gangsters of the robbery at Umargam, members of three gangs of Dindoli, the members of Pravin Raut gang, are all currently lodged at the central jail in Lajpore under various offences.
There are fears of a gang war breaking out between the various gangs even within the central jail. Because of such circumstances, the court has been moved to transfer Mindi and Kothari to a jail outside Surat city.
However, the court has given time till today to both the prosecution and the accused for any other representation that they feel is necessary to make before the court. The court will pronounce its order only after that. DeshGujarat
