Gujarat Health Minister launches drone-based larvicide (BTI) against mosquito larvae in Mehsana

Mehsana: State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel inaugurated a pilot project of organic larvicide (BTI) spraying with the drone for the annihilation of mosquito larvae from Mehsana.

It is probably the first project of the country to annihilate mosquito larvae by spraying organic larvicide through a drone, as per a press note.

The larvicide spraying work will be done through a heavy-duty automatic spray drone after finding waterlogging on highrise buildings, large lakes, and puddles. The mosquitoes will be controlled through this technology by killing the larvae before they transform into mosquitoes. It will be used in the areas where the reach of the ground surveillance team is difficult.

The pilot project is undertaken by Mehsana district panchayat and Prime UAV Private limited company. It uses drone technology based on Artificial Intelligence/machine learning. The drone technology will survey such areas and click photographs. It will upload the images on the cloud by GPS based connected system. The health workers will then open the cloud and collect all the details about the area along with photographs. In the next phase, the drone will be sent to the related areas and spray larvicide.

The initiative is undertaken by Mehsana district development officer Dr Om Prakash, Dr Mahesh Kapadiya (CDHO) and their medical team.
