Daughter of Gujarat, Bhavina Patel reaches CWG final, Medal assured for India

Gandhinagar: India’s topmost Wheelchair Table Tennis player, Tokyo Paralympics medalist, Gujarat origin Bhavina Patel has reached the final in Women’s Singles Class 3-5 against a strong Nigerian player Christiana Ikpeoyi. Gujarat based paddler has assured one more medal to India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham and will play the finals on Saturday.

After a must-watch semi-final win over Akanisi Latu of Fiji with scores of 11-1, 11-5, 11-1, Bhavina Patel has also been personified as dominant.

While discussing in a press conference, Bhavina talked about her confidence and if she feels pressured. She also confronted, “Everyone is having expectations from me post the Tokyo success. It was getting a little nervy for me until I spoke with my husband Nikul Patel about it. I believe that when you do anything passionately, you have to do hard work. Consistency can give you the results as well as giving 100% in training. Everything is possible. You shouldn’t feel pressure,”

Bhavina Patel said she feels grateful to have a supportive and inspiring husband, who inspires her every day to give her best, not worrying about failure or success.
Also while talking about support, Bhavina mentioned, “The Sports Authority also gave me a robot (Butterfly – Amicus Prime), which has helped with my chop shots and it is helping me get a lot of variation in my game. It is helping my training a lot. All in all, I’m getting a lot of support system from every quarter, from the Government, SAI, Paralympic Committee of India, the Table Tennis Federation of India as well as the NGOs supporting me”.

The Commonwealth Games started in Birmingham on July 28 and will go on till August 8.
