Asarwa: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will usher a new dawn for the Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre (IKDRC) when he inaugurates India’s largest multiple organ transplant centre at Manjushree Mills compound, here in Asarwa coming Tuesday (Oct.11).

The 850-bedded state-of-the-art centre, built at a cost of Rs 408 crores, is equipped with the latest diagnostic and clinical facilities to carry out multiple transplant procedures. It is housed in an 11-storeyed (2 basements plus ground floor) building designed to serve patients with enhanced comfort and ease.

IKDRC’s new building will have 22 high-tech operation theatres that includes 10 modular and 10 non-modular OTs besides two mini operation theatres for emergency procedures. With addition of 850 beds in the new building and 400 existing beds in old campus (Kidney Hospital) in Medicity campus, the combined capacity has risen to 1250 beds to accommodate a substantial number of patients in need of pre- and post-transplant care. Apart from this, 12 ultra-modern Intensive Care Units with a combined accommodation for over 100 patients have been commissioned to keep pre- and post-operative transplant patients to avoid infection at any stage.

The newly constructed building also houses a world-class modern blood bank and laboratories for conducting immunology tests, PLA match and stem cell testing. IKDRC has achieved a rare feat of being the first government recognised transplant centre in India that performed twin uterine transplants after receiving a nod from the Gujarat government in August 2022 to perform these rare transplants on AUFI (Absolute Uterine Factor Infertility) women.

“We have also adopted a complete paperless procedure in the new premises to make patients feel comfortable about ease of getting treatment without worrying much about carrying hardcopies of the diagnostic and consultation reports,” Dr Vineet Mishra, Director IKDRC-ITS told reporters on Saturday adding that every patient will get identified through a unique code which will fetch case history on every screen within premises.

The patients admitted in the new building will continue to benefit from various government health assistance schemes under PM-JAY, School Health Programme, SC/ST Card, BPL Card, LIG, CM Fund and PM Fund at highly affordable costs, including voluntary donations.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will also dedicate 188 dialysis centres across Gujarat under One Gujarat, One Dialysis programme. The programme aims to provide dialysis in all 252 talukas (tehsils) of Gujarat under the aegis of the Gujarat Dialysis Programme. Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center (Kidney Hospital), Ahmedabad in coordination with Government of Gujarat commission, maintains and staffs these dialysis centres in every district of Gujarat.

IKDRC monitors every dialysis in all GDP centres at three levels through a central server located at IKDRC, Ahmedabad. Every dialysis session is done under the constant supervision of a nephrologist and technician of the kidney hospital. At these 188 centres patients receive free of cost dialysis treatment while their dialysis sessions are tele-monitored for real time data analysis for qualitative outcomes. DeshGujarat
