PM Narendrabhai Modi to visit Morbi tomorrow

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi will visit Morbi in the latter part of tomorrow on 1st November. This information was given by the official Twitter handle of the Chief Minister’s office of Gujarat.

Prime Minister is on a three days Gujarat visit at present. In Morbi, he is likely to visit the hospital to meet those injured and may also visit the bridge collapse site as per the sources.

The tragic accident of bridge collapse happened yesterday. The bridge is 140-year old and it was repaired and reopened recently. CM Bhupendra Patel and MoS  Home Harsh Sanghvi are personally monitoring the rescue, search, and relief efforts from Morbi itself. The death toll stands at 141 as of now.

Just after the incident yesterday, the Prime Minister spoke to Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and other officials regarding this mishap. He had sought urgent mobilization of teams for rescue operation and asked that the situation be closely and continuously monitored, and extend all possible help to those affected.

PM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each of those who lost their lives in the mishap in Morbi. Where as the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

PM also expressed his deep anguish for victims of the incident from Statue of Unity in Kevadiya this morning where he said “I am in Ekta Nagar but my mind is with the victims of Morbi. Rarely in my life, would I have experienced such pain. On one hand, there is a pain-riddled heart and on the other hand, there is the path to duty. I express my condolences to families of those who lost their lives in the accident. In this hour of grief, Govt is with the bereaved families in every manner. Gujarat Govt is carrying out relief & rescue ops since yesterday. Centre too is extending all help to the State Govt.”

It is believed that the arrival of PM at the site of the Tragedy could hamper rescue work. Therefore CM and HM are overseeing all arrangements while PM is in touch with them regularly. Yesterday, former Morbi MLA Amrutiya and sitting Morbi MLA and minister Brijesh Merja both told media persons that the Prime Minister, concerned about the tragedy in Morbi had spoken to them over phone calls.
