Four Congress leaders including MLA fined Rs 99

Navsari: The Navsari court has imposed a penalty of Rs 99 on four Congress leaders who were involved in a brawl at Navsari Agriculture University five years ago.

The incident occurred on 12th May 2017 when the district youth congress leaders visited the university to resolve a strike. However, their mob misbehaved, used abusive language, and tore a photo of PM Narendra Modi in the office of the vice-chancellor of the university.

The vice chancellor CJ Dangariya filed a complaint against several individuals, including Navsari municipality councilors and other Congress leaders. The police had taken action by filing a charge sheet.

On 29th January 2018, a charge sheet was filed in Navsari court, and the second additional chief judicial magistrate of Navsari, VA Dandhal, declared four Congress leaders guilty under criminal procedure code section 248 (2) and IPC section 447. The accused, including Vansda’s current MLA Anant Patel (age 35), Tharad former MLA Gulabsinh Pirasinh Rajput (age 34), Navsari municipality former councillor Piyush Dhimmar (age 33), and Parthivsinh Kathvadiya (age 35), were fined Rs 99.

It’s worth noting that Anant Patel was not an MLA at the time of the incident.

The judge, VA Dhandhal, emphasized that punishment should be given for a person’s actions and not for the person’s status, as per the established principle of law. He stated that while the accused are prestigious, their actions did not suit their prestige. DeshGujarat
