Police found 2 gold chains in possession of Mahudi temple trustees accused of theft

Gandhinagar: The Local crime branch, during an investigation, seized two gold chains worth Rs 10 lakh, allegedly stolen by the accused trustees of Mahudi Jain Tirth.

The team from Gandhinagar local crime branch had apprehended Sunil Mehta and Nilesh Mehta, two trustees of Mahudi Mandir, in connection with the theft of gold foil worth Rs 45 lakh and a gold chain from the treasury of Ghantakarna Dev. The arrest was made after Bhupendra Vora, another trustee of Mahudi Mandir, filed a complaint against them.

The police secured two days of remand for the accused trustees and seized several items, including the gold chain, during the investigation. Nilesh Mehta was found to be in possession of two gold chains weighing 210 grams, worth Rs 10,09,000. Further investigation revealed that the accused had more gold ornaments as the police discovered photos of a 241-gram gold necklace on Sunil Mehta’s phone.
