April 20, 2023
Surat: The sessions and district court of Surat today upheld the lower court’s verdict sentencing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in the defamation case filed by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Purnesh Modi. The court has not given any relief against the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in this case as well, meaning Rahul’s disqualification from the membership of Lok Sabha continues. The court rejected Rahul’s plea. Rahul Gandhi is reportedly moving to the State High Court tomorrow to challenge the order. The defamation case was filed against Rahul Gandhi in Adajan Police Station of Surat by Purnesh Modi in the year 2019. Rahul is convicted under sections 499 and 500 of IPC. DeshGujarat
