Gando Baval rules non-forest land of Gujarat
According to report declared by Gujarat’s Forest and Enviornment department’s Principal Secretary Shri S.K.Nanda in ongoing Social Forestry national meet in Gandhinagar, the type of tree that is present in highest number in Gujarat in non-forest area is Gando Baval(3,93,83,800). Limdo comes at second place(2,97,76,100) followed by Desi Baval(2,39,92,400) and Nilgiri(2,17,33,900).
Area wise number of trees
According to this report, North Gujarat has 5,34,19,200 trees, Central Gujarat has 7,55,65,400 trees, South Gujarat has 5,43,24,300, Saurashtra-Kutch has 8,53,81,100 trees. Thus total trees in Gujarat in non-forest area are 26,86,90,100 trees.
According to report, Porbandar, Amreli and Dahod districts have witnessed decreased number of trees compare to past.
Ahoy Anand!
Anand district had 65 trees per hector in 2004, but according to latest report there are 68 trees in the district. The farmers of Anand have connected agricultural farming with tree farming. They grow trees and then cut them. At the same time they grow more trees again. The district has earned Rs. 140 crore in a year through selling of timber.
