May 12, 2023
Jamnagar: A Nigerian citizen has been sent on 12 days remand (police custody) by a local court in Rajkot in a 30 kg heroin drug case.
According to details shared by government lawyer Rajesh Vora, Police had received information that three bags full of heroin, totaling 30 kg were lying in unmanned area behind Khandheri stadium in Rajkot and one Bablu was going to take its delivery.
Police arranged a watch and waited for someone to come to take delivery of drugs so that he could be nabbed red-handed. However even after hours of waiting, none turned up to take those bags. Police eventually took possession of bags full of 39 kg heroin. Police found a chit in the bag that had mention of the delivery address and name of a person ‘Okoyo’ in Delhi.
Police then seized heroin and created fake samples of heroin in another three bags and went to Delhi to deliver the bags to the person mentioned in chit on the address which was also mentioned in chit. Police reached Delhi and found that the person who was to take delivery was a Nigerian and his name was not Okoyo but it was Ekunif Marsi. Police delivered fake heroin bags to a Nigerian man who comfortably took delivery, as if he was already expecting it. Police then nabbed him.
Police found that accused Nigerian man had come to India in August 2022 on three-month visa for medical treatment. The accused was not doing any work or business in India. The accused had taken a visa for India for medical treatment but he had no medical records to support the claim. He was overstaying in India.
It is learnt that one Anwar from Pakistan sent it and one Jafri on Gujarat coast took its delivery. It is believed that Ekunif Marsi was in India, waiting for this stock to arrive and to be delivered to him from Pakistan.
