Surat: During the meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented several gifts to President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Among these gifts was the Green Diamond, produced by the Surat-based diamond company Green Lab, which was specifically presented to Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the USA.
The lab-grown 7.5-carat green diamond gifted by PM Modi to Jill Biden reflects the chemical and optical properties of earth-mined diamonds. It is worth noting that the diamond was crafted using eco-friendly resources, such as solar and wind power, making it environmentally conscious.
With its meticulous precision and advanced technology, the green diamond showcases exemplary craftsmanship. It boasts an impressively low carbon emission rate of 0.028 grams per carat and is certified by the Gemological lab, IGI.
This diamond which is 7.5 carat, serves as a symbol of responsible luxury, representing India’s 75 years of independence and its commitment to promoting sustainable international relations.
Green Lab Diamonds is a Surat-based company established as a diamond cultivator in the 1960s. Over the last few years, the company has moved from natural to cultivated diamonds, redefining the diamond industry along the way. Greenlab is owned by Mukesh Patel.
Patel in reply to a media query today said that the diamond symbolizes the spirit of Make in India, as it is made here. He said it is 7.5 carats to symbolize the 75 years of India’s independence.
Vipul Shah, Chairman, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India’s Apex body supported by the ministry of commerce and industry said “We are happy to note that Hon. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modiji gifted 7.5 Carat ‘green’ lab-grown diamond (LGD) to America’s First Lady Dr. Jill Biden during the private dinner with American President Mr Joe Biden at the White House in Washington. “Today India is the largest player in growing of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) lab-grown diamonds. Presenting 7.5 carats in the 75th year of India’s Independence highlights India’s leadership in the LGD sunrise sector and is a great example of the Make in India story, after attaining undisputed global leadership in natural diamonds. India’s exports of LGD has grown exponentially and crossed USD 1.67 billion in 2022- 2023. This symbolic gesture also signifies the growing popularity of LGDs in India, the US and the entire world. In one masterstroke, Prime Minister also highlighted the exquisite craftsmanship of artisans as well,” he added.
One more gift that PM Modi gave to President Biden had a Gujarat connection, a specially crafted box made of Mysore sandalwood. Inside this box, there are 10 donations, as per the custom of ‘Das Danam’ observed during Sahasra Poorna Chandrodayam.
As part of this custom, Lavan or salt from Gujarat is offered as a donation, known as Lavandaan. In the past also PM Modi has gifted several Gujarat-made gifts to various heads of state. DeshGujarat
