Gujarat BJYM chief gets extortion call from Tejasvi Surya’s number; Complaint filed

Bengaluru: Member of Parliament from Bengaluru South and BJP leader Tejasvi Surya has lodged a complaint alleging that his mobile phone was misused to carry out an extortion attempt involving money and diamonds targeting a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Gujarat.

The complaint was lodged at the South CEN Police Station by Banu Prakash V, the personal secretary of Surya. In the complaint, Prakash explains that he manages Surya’s phone and handles incoming calls on his behalf due to Surya’s busy schedule.

According to the complaint, on July 1, Prashanth Korat, the president of BJYM Gujarat unit, received a phone call from Surya’s mobile phone. Upon learning about the extortion call, Korat promptly informed Surya, who denied any such call. Prakash’s complaint further alleges that an unidentified individual stole the mobile phone, made the call to Korat, and subsequently abandoned the device.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the Information Technology Act, as well as Section 419 (cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). DeshGujarat
