Surat: The Surat Crime Branch today nabbed a Bangladeshi youth from the Udhna area who was living in the city illegally. The police recovered some duplicate documents, including an Aadhaar card, from the nabbed individual. An investigation has been initiated by the Surat Crime Branch due to suspicions surrounding the youth’s contacts. Based on the counterfeit documents found in his possession, the police suspect that he was attempting to create a duplicate passport.

Preliminary information suggests that the detained youth had been residing in Udhana since 2018. As the individual appears to be technologically skilled, the police have commenced an examination of his electronic devices, including his mobile phone. Certain applications found on the devices have raised suspicions, prompting a further investigation by the cyber team.

Furthermore, it has been discovered that he had prepared duplicate birth certificates and PAN cards. Some literature was also found in his possession. The youth allegedly had connections with one person in Bangladesh, and the police are investigating other potentially suspicious contacts.

In addition to the recovered Aadhaar card and PAN card, the police also found a bank ATM card. The youth had in his possession a school certificate from Bangladesh, college application forms, and a bachelor’s degree certificate.

The police have started gathering details about his entry into Surat in 2018, including how he reached India and the specific route he took. Preliminary information suggests that he crossed the Putkhali River from Bangladesh under the cover of darkness and entered India. The youth travelled through Meherpur, Hyderabad, Karnataka, and Mumbai before reaching Surat, where he worked in garment factories.

The Surat City Crime Branch is investigating the youth for acquiring a complete profile, including the creation of counterfeit documents. DeshGujarat
