Sunil Joliya Jinabhai from Gujarat wins gold in the 3000m steeplechase

Goa: In the ongoing 37th National Games here, Sunil Joliya Jinabhai from Gujarat secured the gold medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event, setting a new Games record. The record-breaking performance occurred at the Athletics Stadium in Bambolim, where Jinabhai completed the 3000m steeplechase in 8:37.15s, surpassing the previous Games record set by Shankar Lal Swami in the last edition.
Preeti Lamba of Haryana claimed the gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:19.78s.
Hosts Goa also delivered an good performance, winning six gold medals in sepaktakraw and improving their standing in the overall rankings. However, the top three positions in the standings remained unchanged.
Maharashtra maintained its lead in the overall standings with a total of 162 medals, including 60 golds, 49 silvers, and 53 bronzes. The Services Sports Control Board closed the gap with the leaders, increasing their gold medal tally to 40 after strong performances in combat sports. Haryana held on to the third position with a total of 91 medals, including 32 golds, 24 silvers, and 35 bronzes. DeshGujarat
