Heartburn in Maharashtra opposition as Gujarat hosting the Filmfare awards this year
January 17, 2024
Mumbai: While the GIFT City in Gujarat is all set to hold two days-long functions of the annual Filmfare awards, the opposition party in Mumbai has described it as an attempt to reduce the importance of Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai, and move out the Hindi film industry.
It’s worth noting that the Gujarat government had last year signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) for holding the Filmfare awards in Gujarat. Conventionally this award function is held in Mumbai. This award ceremony is organized by a private media group.
The 69th Filmfare Awards for the Hindi film industry will be held in GIFT City near Gandhinagar in Gujarat on January 27 and 28 in association with Gujarat tourism. Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, said Bollywood and Mumbai share an unbreakable bond.
Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar while speaking in the Assembly – It is an attempt to reduce the importance of Mumbai and take the film industry out of the city. This decision will hurt the business of cine workers. This will surely have a big impact on the actors, employees and businesses in our state that are dependent on this sector.
NCP national spokesperson Clyde Crasto said – Gujarat is “stealing” everything from Mumbai and Maharashtra since the last couple of years. “Big-ticket projects were stolen from Maharashtra last year. Now, the latest is the prestigious Filmfare Awards.
