Speculations rife about resignations of Lunwada, Porbandar Congress MLAs soon; Both refute

Mahisagar: There are fresh speculations regarding possible resignations of two Congress MLAs – Arjunbhai Modhwadia (Porbandar) and Gulabsinh Chauhan (Lunawada). Both MLAs have refuted the news reports that they are likely to leave the main opposition Congress party and resign from the post of the Member of Legislative Assembly.

Speculations were rife throughout today that Lunwada Congress MLA, Gulabsinh Somsinh Chauhan, is likely to leave the main opposition party, Congress. A news report also quoted sources and claimed that Chauhan  is expected to submit his resignation from the MLA post to the State Assembly Speaker, Shankarbhai Chaudhary. However, Chauhan refuted the news report in a single line.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha general elections that are likely to take place in April/May this year, Khambhat Congress MLA Chirag Patel has resigned, followed by the resignation of Vijapur Congress MLA CJ Chavda last week.

In the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, Chauhan who is the first-time MLA won the Lunawada seat for Congress by securing victory by a margin of 26,255 votes, defeating the ruling BJP candidate Sevak Jigneshkumar Ambalal.

In another development, there were some media reports today that Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia was leaving the party, but Modhwadia took to the social media platform X to deny these claims. Speculations regarding Modhwadia joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were rife earlier too. The Congress party had refuted such “rumors”.

While the State assembly session is scheduled to take place on 1st February, some Congress MLAs may resign after attending the session, it is learnt. Vacant seats would attract a by-election which shall take place on the same day as the polling of the Lok Sabha general elections in Gujarat. DeshGujarat
