PM Narendrabhai Modi virtually kicks off redevelopment of 46 railway stations in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi today virtually laid foundation stone for redevelopment of 46 railway stations across Gujarat via video conference. These railway stations to be redeveloped include Kalupur in Ahmedabad, Rajkot junction, Jamnagar, Bilimora junction, Ankleshwar and 41 other railway stations. They shall be redeveloped as Amrit Stations. Station walls and interiors are inspired by regional art and culture.

The Prime Minister also performed ground breaking and inauguration of 135 railway over bridges and railway underpasses across Gujarat via video conference.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi nationwide inaugurated and laid the foundation stone virtually of around 2000 railway infrastructure projects worth more than Rs. 41,000 crores today. As part of this event, the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 46 stations in Gujarat were laid under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations will undergo upgrades to enhance the travel experience for passengers and become more accessible.

“The design of Ahmedabad Railway Station is inspired by the Surya Mandir of Modhera, while Dwarka railway station has been inspired by the Dwarkadheesh temple,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the event.

Prime Minister has often emphasised the importance of providing world class amenities at railway stations. In a major step in this endeavour, Prime Minister lays the foundation stone for redevelopment of 553 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations, spread across 27 States and Union Territories, will be redeveloped at a cost of over Rs. 19,000 crores. These stations will act as ‘City Centres’ integrating both sides of the city. They will have modern passenger amenities like roof plaza, beautiful landscaping, inter modal connectivity, improved modern façade, kids play area, kiosks, food courts, etc. They will be redeveloped as environment friendly and also Divyang friendly. The design of these station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture.

Prime Minister also inaugurated and launched works for 1500 Railway Over Bridges and Underpasses across 24 States and Union Territories worth Rs. 21,520 crores. These projects will reduce congestion, enhance safety and connectivity, improve capacity, and efficiency of rail travel. DeshGujarat
