Power demand in Gujarat surpasses 22,800 MW

Gandhinagar: The overall power demand in Gujarat soared to a new peak on Tuesday, surpassing the 22,800 MW. This is a significant increase compared to the same period last year when the highest single-day demand in the first half of April was recorded at 20,747 MW.

According to data from the State Load Dispatch Centre, electricity consumption stood at 22,843 MW on Tuesday. Experts anticipate that the total statewide demand may surpass 23,500 MW in May.

In order to meet Tuesday’s demand, Gujarat procured 33 million units from the power exchange. Gujarat recorded the highest demand this summer at 470.58 million units.

The rise in power consumption can be attributed to various factors, including higher temperatures leading to increased usage of cooling appliances, as well as overall economic growth driving energy consumption across different sectors. According to an official, the industrial segment accounts for approximately 50% of power demand, with agriculture following closely behind. DeshGujarat
