20 km/hr speed must for getting Fitness Certificate for school transport vehicles
June 11, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) proposed new rules on Monday by mandating a 20 km/h speed limit affidavit for school transport vehicle fitness certificates. This increased vigilance led to strict actions against violators on Monday, raising concerns among the School Transport Association.
During a meeting with RTO officials on Monday, the association requested an extension of the deadline for obtaining fitness certificates. In response, the Ahmedabad RTO Superintendent Officer (SO) proposed streamlining the process to speed up certificate issuance for the city’s 15,000 school vehicles. J.J. Patel, an official from the Subhash Bridge RTO, emphasized that there would be no leniency in enforcing regulations for school transport vehicles.
Dharmendra Brahmabhatt, head of the School Transport Association, highlighted the need to complete the fitness and permit process before schools reopen. The costs associated with converting private vehicles for commercial use, insurance, and other procedures can total up to ₹50,000, which drivers might struggle to pay upfront. He has requested the commissioner grant a three-month grace period to complete permits and fitness checks. DeshGujarat
