June 20, 2024
Vadodara: Vaishnavs in the city organized a large rally of bikes and cars today to protest the Netflix movie “Maharaj.” The protest began at the Kirti Stambh and moved through the city, concluding at the collector’s office. Participants, including Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi and MLA Keyur Rokadia, demanded a ban on the film.
The rally was organized by the Vallabh Youth Organization (VYO) and Vaishnav Innerfaith Pushtimargiya Organization (VIPO) Global. People alleged that the movie insults Hindu gods and goddesses and portrays them inaccurately, sparking widespread condemnation. MLA Keyur Rokadia condemned the film for misrepresenting sacred figures in Sanatan Dharma.
Rashmiben Shah, President of the women’s wing of the Vadodara Vallabh Youth Organization, condemned the movie for depicting indecent scenes and making baseless allegations against Vaishnava Maharaj. She urged the government to prevent the release of the film, warning of its adverse effects on society and children.
Harish Shah, a Vaishnav leader, pointed out that the movie does not follow historical facts and could have a harmful effect. He stated that a novel has been written based on false information from Google, and any movie based on this novel would be purely imaginative. He stressed the importance of honoring the principles of the 547-year-old tradition of Vaishnavism. DeshGujarat
