Amul Introduces Kathiyawadi Chaas for Saurashtra-Kutch Region

Kutch: Aiming to boost its growing buttermilk sales, dairy giant Amul introduced Kathiyawadi Chaas on Thursday, a new buttermilk variant popular in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of the state. They also launched a 1 kg pack of Masti Dahi, their curd product. Priced at Rs 10 for a 400-milliliter pouch, Kathiyawadi Chaas has a two-day shelf life.

At an event held at the Sarhad Dairy milk processing plant in Kutch, Valamji Humbal, Vice Chairman of the Gujarat State Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), unveiled the Kathiyawadi Chaas and the 1 kg tub of Masti Dahi.

With sales of an average of one lakh liters of buttermilk daily, Amul expects a 20% rise in sales with the launch of Kathiyawadi Chaas.

This Kathiyawadi Chaas will soon be available throughout Saurashtra, with four plants manufacturing it. Depending on market response, it may also be offered in other regions.

“The traditional buttermilk in the Kathiyawadi or Saurashtra regions is slightly sour but milder than khatti chaas. Many prefer this taste for drinking and cooking recipes like kadhi. Thus, we’ve introduced this variety, available in Kutch retail outlets from Thursday evening,” Humbal told the media. DeshGujarat
