Rajkot: With the relocation of Rajkot airport to Hirasar, the requirement for obtaining NOC from the airport authority for high-rise buildings in the city has been abolished. This development paves the way for the construction of skyscrapers in the city. Previously, due to the airport’s central location, the height limit for high-rise buildings in the city was restricted to 50 to 55 meters, approximately up to 14 storeys.

The Rajkot Builder Association (RBA) announced on Friday that developers no longer need the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) NOC to approve new building plans near the airport, following the civil aviation ministry’s official gazette renaming Hirasar airport as Rajkot airport. According to an official announcement by the RBA, the ministry updated the gazette with this change.

Recently, RBA officials met Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu to address this issue. Previously, obtaining AAI’s NOC was mandatory for builders to submit development plans to the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, but this requirement has been eliminated.

Dhruvik Talalviya, Vice-President of RBA, commented, “We have raised this issue with the government multiple times since the airport relocated to Hirasar last year. Now, there is no need for any certification prior to approving development plans, which will streamline processes and promote development in western Rajkot.”

With the closure of the old airport, the height restriction has been lifted, allowing builders to seek approval for high-rise buildings up to 50 stories, provided they adhere to the land area norms as per TP regulations. DeshGujarat
