Surat: The Banana Growers’ Association of Kamrej Vibhag Cooperative Fruit and Vegetable Growers Society Limited has filed a complaint against Desai Agrifoods Pvt. Ltd. for cheating them of Rs 2.65 crore. The complaint was lodged by the association’s manager, Paresh Patel, at Kamrej police station.
Desai Agrifoods Pvt. Ltd., based in Amdapore of Navsari, has been purchasing bananas from the association for 16 years. They usually completed their payments in installments. Problems began in 2021-22 when Anup Karwa joined the company as Chief Director. The company, which had been timely in its payments, stopped paying for bananas purchased on credit. Despite repeated contacts and assurances, the dues have reached ₹2,65,22,573.
The association decided to file a complaint when they found out that the land of Desai Agrifoods was up for sale. The complaint names directors Ajit Desai, Anup Karwa, and CEO Pradip Hirchandani, accusing them of criminal conspiracy and cheating. The police are investigating the matter. DeshGujarat
