Ahmedabad: A couple from Bangladesh, living illegally for the last 15 years in Ahmedabad, was caught by the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Western Railways at Ahmedabad Railway Station on May 1.

The LCB received a tip-off about Riksana while patrolling the station and apprehended her based on suspicion. Further investigation revealed that Riksana Salim Sheikh, aged 55, worked as a domestic help, while Salim Halim Sheikh, aged 65, was a beggar. Both were originally from Hoglaguniya village in Bangladesh. They had been residing in Nawab ki Chawl near Chandola Talav, Shah Alam, Ahmedabad.

The LCB found that Riksana and her husband had been using fake Aadhar cards. Police found their Bangladeshi passports on further investigation. The couple had entered India by illegally crossing the Bangladesh border with the help of some agents. They came to India to do labour work. During the search, the police seized four illegal mobile phones worth Rs 52,000 from Riksana and a SIM card based on their illegal Aadhar card.

A case has been filed against Riksana and Salim under IPC sections 465, 468, 471, and 114, and Section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, 1946. They are currently under police restriction at SOG Juhapura, as authorities continue to investigate how they obtained fake documents and Aadhar cards. DeshGujarat
