Shahibaug Ghoda Camp PI suspended over deaths of horses

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has suspended PI MS Barot from Shahibaug Horse Camp following negligence that led to the deaths of 8 horses since 2023 and the infection of 28 others.
The decision came after 3 horses died in 2023 and 5 more in the first half of 2024. It prompted Commissioner G. S. Malik to visit the camp. During the visit, it was revealed that three young horses—Makdi (5 yrs), Radha (4 yrs), and Jaguar (6 yrs)—had died in June over a span of four weeks, prompting serious concern. He ordered Zone 6 DCP Ravi Saini to investigate. A spot inspection and veterinary examination further revealed the extent of the negligence.
The inquiry highlighted issues, including the improper storage of horse fodder—supposed to be dry and white, but found muddy and green—and unsanitary conditions such as algae-infested drinking water tanks and neglected staff washroom
This negligence led to tick infections among 28 horses. Immediate treatment has been initiated for the infected horses.
Police Commissioner G. S. Malik confirmed the findings, stating that negligence was the cause behind the deaths and infections. As a result, PI MS Barot was suspended from his position at the Shahibaug Horse Camp. DeshGujarat
