Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary (Labour, Skill Development & Employment), gave details about the Shramik Basera Yojana. She stated that under this scheme, temporary housing will be provided to labourers and their families at five rupees rent per day. The labourers working at the construction sites for Municipal Corporations, Municipality, Urban Development Authority, Notified Area, Industrial Association, etc will benefit from this.
The initiative aims to develop housing for three lakh labourers over the next three years. In the first phase, there will be seven sites in Ahmedabad, one in Gandhinagar, six in Rajkot, and three in Vadodara, totaling 17 sites. Around 15,000 labourers will receive housing on a rental basis within 1 km of construction sites. Local bodies have provided temporary leases to acquire land for these facilities.
She further mentioned that the facilities will include drinking water, kitchens, electricity, fans, streetlights, toilets, CCTV, site managers for repairs, security, cleanliness, medical facilities, and Ghodiyaghar (childcare). Maintenance expenses for water, electricity, security, and cleanliness will be covered by the board.
Moreover, the labourers will receive bedding facilities and cots at 5 rupees per day, with free cots provided for children. The Shramik Annapurna booth will allow labourers to take tiffins of food to their work sites. Medical services will be provided with the help of Dhanvantri Arogya Rath. Additionally, the Gujarat government has started the Niwasi Shikshan Sahay Yojana for the children of migrated labourers, offering up to 1 lakh rupees in educational support.
Currently, 10.24 lakh labourers are registered in Gujarat, with eight lakh registered in the last three years. Thus, the Shramik Basera Yojana is a step towards enhancing the quality of life for the working community in Gujarat. DeshGujarat
