Gandhinagar: The National Forensic Science University (NFSU), in partnership with the Department of Telecommunication (DoT), is set to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in telecom security at its Gandhinagar campus. Additionally, the CoE’s malware laboratory will be established at NFSU’s Goa campus, focusing primarily on vulnerabilities associated with 5G communication.
A memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday between Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the DoT, and Ravi A. Robert Jerard, Deputy Director General (Standards Research & Innovation).
In a statement, NFSU Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.M. Vyas emphasized that the CoE aims to “enhance telecommunication security in India.” He added, “NFSU has committed to establishing a dedicated, state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence in telecom security, making it India’s first and only CoE in this field, with the malware lab located at NFSU’s Goa campus.”
Professor Naveen Kumar Chaudhary, who serves on the Supreme Court-appointed committee investigating unauthorized surveillance through Pegasus spyware, will direct the Goa campus of NFSU.
Professor S.O. Junare, the Campus Director of NFSU Gandhinagar, noted that the CoE will focus on developing a 5G protocol audit and assessment framework to identify vulnerabilities in 5G communication. DeshGujarat
