PM Modi pays tribute to Jamsaheb’s memorial at Warsaw in Poland; Shatrulyasinhji shares his joy

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi today on the first day of his Poland visit paid tribute at Jamsaheb Memorial in Warsaw.
During the second world war, Maharaja (ruler) of Nawanagar (Jamnagar in Gujarat) Digvijaysinhji had given shelter to 6,000 Polish refugees. Maharaja had provided asylum to nearly 1,000 war orphans and women at his Balachadi Palace in his princely state then. There’s a school named after Maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji in Warsaw in Poland. There’s also a Tram-‘Dobry Maharaja’ (Dobry means good in Polish language and Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja is popularly called Dobry Maharaja in Poland) at Wroclaw, named after the Maharaja of Jamnagar.
On this occasion, Wg Cdr. (Hon) Shatrushiyasinhji Digvijaysinkyi Jadeja, the Maharaja Jamsaheb Nawanagar shared his joy on learning that PM interacted with his extended family in Poland. In a written message, he discussed the deep reverence of the unimaginable trials and enduring hardships that were endured by the Polish people. He also praised PM’s thoughtful gesture that embodies the spirit and humanity that mirror the “Good Maharaja” Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja.
He also mentioned that in order to build on the legacy and further strengthen the historical connect between the people of India and Poland, he has requested the Prime Minister to consider setting up a youth, student and cultural exchange between the two countries. DeshGujarat
