Red alert in parts of Gujarat until August 27; IMD forecasts very heavy rainfall

Gandhinagar: Gujarat has been witnessing intense rainfall in recent days, a trend expected to persist in the coming days as a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan moves west-southwestward and is expected to intensify into a deep depression, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). In its latest forecast, the IMD has issued red and orange alerts for certain regions from August 24 to 27, with the orange alert extending until August 30.
According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, a red alert has been issued for Surat, Narmada, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and in the Saurashtra-Kutch districts of Bhavnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and Kutch on August 25, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in a few places, along with isolated extremely heavy falls in these districts.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for districts including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Dang, Tapi, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and in Diu.
On August 26, Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli, and Bhavnagar are under a red alert with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in a few places, along with isolated extremely heavy falls.
Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and in Diu are all under an orange alert.
On August 27, Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch are all under a red alert with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in a few places, along with isolated extremely heavy falls.
Meanwhile, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad, and in Diu are under an orange alert. On August 29th, an orange alert will be in place for Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and Diu, as heavy to very heavy rain is predicted in these areas.
On August 30th, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch are the only districts under an orange alert with a prediction of heavy to very heavy rains.
The IMD forecast issued at 6 pm on August 25th stated that a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan has been moving westward at a speed of 13 km/h, the Indian Meteorological Department reported. As of 11:30 AM IST on August 25th, the system was centered over eastern Rajasthan and adjoining areas of northwest Madhya Pradesh, approximately 80 km west-southwest of Guna and 90 km southeast of Kota. The depression is expected to intensify into a deep depression over eastern Rajasthan within the next 12 hours. It will then continue moving west-southwestward across southern Rajasthan and Gujarat, potentially emerging into the northeast Arabian Sea near the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as the adjoining Pakistani coast, by the morning of August 29th.
